Bordered by the city’s ancient walls and gates, which includes the magnificent Torres del Serrano, the narrow winding streets of the Barrio del Carmen hold the delights of the city’s Cathedral, La Lonja de la Seda (Silk Exchange) as well as many Gothic churches and a wide variety of museums.
Sweeping to the north of the historic center, and flowing over 9km from the city’s new Bioparc Zoo towards the port, is the green parkland of the Jardines del Turia (Gardens of the Turia river), where you can explore on foot or bicycle many cafes, children’s play areas, sports grounds, fountains, lakes and bridges.
It’s here that you will find Calatrava’s ultra-modern Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (The City of Arts and Sciences), an architecturally stunning collection of buildings that house the city’s opera house, science museum and 3D cinema.
It’s also where the famous Berklee School of Music (headquartered in Boston, US) has its Valencia Campus and holds regular free Lago de Conciertos (the Lake of Concerts), showcasing its famous and illustrious musical talent, for all to enjoy.
On reaching the sea you will find over 2 miles of clean sandy beaches, bordered by the Paseo Maritimo (seaside promenade), full of seaside restaurants and pubs – a fantastic place for a stroll in any and every moment!
